Parent Information Guide

This guide is an information source for parents and/or caregivers of children enrolled in the Jump for Joy After School Care Program at both the Play Centre location and the Kids Club location.

1. Mission Statement
Jump for Joy strives to provide the experiences required for each child to grow to their individual potential, while supporting their healthy development through respect, support, and care.

2. Philosophy
We provide a warm, loving, and caring atmosphere in which children learn through play and experiences. Jump for Joy offers an inclusive learning environment in which a child can develop and grow at their own pace. We provide creative and stimulating activities that encourage social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth. Our goal is to nurture cooperative play, self-confidence, and support their ongoing development.

Aggressive and Inappropriate Behaviour Policy

As childcare providers, it is our responsibility to ensure the physical safety, the total well being of all children within our care, and the smooth operation of the program. Inevitably there will be occurrences of inappropriate behaviour. It is at these times that there may be a need for intervention by the caregiver. The centre has adopted the following policy regarding aggression, disruption, and inappropriate behaviour:

Any physical, emotional, or verbal act which may result in placing themself, other children and/or staff members within the centre in an emotional, physical, harmful, hurtful, or unsafe situation. This includes but is not limited too: threatening to run away, running away from the group, bullying, consistently defying the leaders and putting their safety at risk (I.e., running out onto the road).

In dealing with these behaviours, the following procedures will be followed:

1. The child will be removed from the group and the centre’s Behaviour Management Policy will be implemented by staff, to redirect the child and to stop the aggressive behaviour.

a) Jump for Joy will never use physical control to remove a child from the group unless absolutely necessary. This applies to situations where the child poses a serious threat to the physical safety of children and has not complied with the leaders in removing themselves independently from the group.

2. If the aggressive behaviour continues throughout the day, week, or month (depending on the severity). The parent/guardian/caregiver will be contacted immediately to pick up the child. An incident report will also be made and documented.

3. Once the parent/guardian/caregiver has been called and/or spoken to on occasions relating to the aggressive, disruptive, and/or inappropriate behaviour, the supervisor and manager will consult, and then inform the parent/guardian/caregiver of any impending decisions.

Jump for Joy has the right to a) impose a suspension of after school care privileges; b) limit the child’s hours of attendance or; c) terminate the space.

Please note: Any aggressive, violent, or unsafe behaviour that puts the child, other children, staff, or the building’s safety in immediate risk cannot be tolerated. In these extreme cases, the child will be automatically suspended or have their spot permanently revoked without prior warning.
